Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has taken several measures to alleviate the hardship faced by the people of the state since the removal of petrol subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
The approved palliatives include a subsidy allowance of N10,000 for all workers and pensioners on the state government’s payroll, to be disbursed over a six-month period starting with August salaries. Additionally, local government workers will receive their salaries based on the full minimum wage set by the federal government.
To further assist citizens, the state government has ordered 70 trucks of Maize and 20 trucks of rice to be distributed at subsidized rates. Moreover, 50 trucks of fertilizer will be provided to workers and the public engaged in agricultural activities at subsidized prices.
In addition to these measures, buses will be made available to facilitate transportation for workers and the public within the state and local government areas.
Governor Fintiri stated that these palliatives were decided upon after extensive consultations and recommendations from organized labor and relevant government agencies, aiming to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal in Adamawa State.

“Following a series of meetings and key recommendations from organized labor and heads of relevant MDAs, I have graciously approved the following measures to cushion the effect of subsidy removal by the federal government in Adamawa State:
1. Subsidy Allowance: A subsidy allowance of N10,000 will be granted to all workers and pensioners on the payroll of the state government for a period of six months. This measure aims to alleviate the immediate financial burden caused by the subsidy removal and offer support to those who may be affected.
2. Full Minimum Wage Implementation: Commencing with August salaries, local government workers will receive their salaries in accordance with the full minimum wage of the federal government. This decision seeks to improve the standard of living for local government employees and ensure their remuneration is fair and just.
3. Food Distribution: In response to the potential increase in food prices due to the subsidy removal, the state government has ordered 70 trucks of Maize and 20 trucks of rice for distribution to the citizenry at subsidized rates. This initiative intends to make essential food items more affordable and accessible to the public.
4. Subsidized Fertilizer: Recognizing the importance of the agricultural sector, 50 trucks of fertilizer will be distributed to workers and the public engaged in agricultural activities at subsidized rates. This move is designed to support farmers and boost agricultural productivity in the state.
5. Transportation Support: Buses will be provided to ease transportation for workers and the public within the state and local government areas. This measure aims to alleviate transportation challenges that may arise as a result of the subsidy removal and ensure smooth movement for all residents.
