The Amuwo Odofin Youths Renaissance Network, a community-based group advocating for good governance, has strongly criticized the virtual judgment delivered by the Appeal Court on Friday, November 17, 2023, describing it as a calculated attempt to undermine the will of the people in Amuwo-Constituency 2.
In a statement released on Monday and signed by the group’s spokesperson, Comrade Abdulmajeed Oreoluwa, the organization expressed concerns about the potential repetition of historical injustices in Amuwo-Odofin federal constituency.
The statement outlined the belief that Hon. Doherty Olukoya David of the Labour Party convincingly won the state assembly election to represent Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 2. However, the recent developments, where the judicial process is seemingly manipulated to usurp the people’s mandate, raised alarm for the group.
Oreoluwa pointed out that the group found the virtual judgment perplexing, emphasizing the dismissal of all cases in an ambiguous manner. The statement raised several questions, including the absence of physical court proceedings, the dismissal on subjective grounds, and the perceived partiality of Justice Baba Idris presiding over the case.
The group questioned the legitimacy of Wale Rauf’s claim to a mandate not given by the people at the polls, highlighting his lack of grassroots connection and disconnect from local politics.
The statement concluded by asserting the youths’ refusal to remain silent in the face of perceived injustice and the manipulation of court proceedings to favor a particular outcome. The group pledged to challenge what they termed an alleged “hatchet job” by the judiciary, asserting their commitment to defending the people’s will in Amuwo-Odofin.
