Abuja — Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have thwarted an attempt to sneak suspected psychoactive drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory.
FCT Command spokesperson Samson Duza said in a statement Monday that the incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, when Njimogu Ikedi arrived to visit an inmate. During a routine search, personnel discovered items believed to be cannabis sativa and other illicit substances hidden in his clothing.
Duza said Controller of Corrections Christopher Jen, head of the FCT Command, ordered Ikedi’s immediate arrest and handed him over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.
Jen warned visitors against attempting to smuggle contraband into the facility, stressing that vigilant officers will continue to intercept such efforts. He also called on the public to support NCoS in its mission to reform and rehabilitate offenders, which he described as critical to public safety.
This incident follows a similar case in July 2024, when a woman was caught trying to smuggle psychoactive substances into the same facility.
