Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on voters in Abuja to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2026 FCT council elections, framing the polls as an opportunity for Nigerians to demand change.
In a statement on his social media platforms, Atiku, alongside other African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders including former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, engaged voters on the significance of the elections.
“This election is very important. It will reflect how ready the managers of our elections are to deliver free, fair, and credible polls,” he said, adding that it also tests citizens’ willingness to demand political change.
Atiku encouraged residents to turn out in large numbers to support ADC candidates, emphasizing that the party has fielded individuals with competence, capacity, and character to provide effective leadership across Abuja’s local councils. He also urged voters to resist any form of intimidation, stressing their responsibility to make informed choices.
Criticizing the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Atiku accused the government of failing to address pressing national challenges. “The APC-led Federal Government has failed citizens on many fronts,” he said, adding that the FCT elections are a starting point for removing the party from power.
“APC must be voted out in the coming elections, and we should start with the FCT elections,” he concluded.
