Governor Alex Otti of Abia State was in Edo State on Thursday to rally support for the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, ahead of the state’s crucial September 21 election. Speaking at a gathering, Otti urged the people of Edo to replicate what was achieved in Abia by electing a Labour Party candidate into power.
Addressing the crowd in Igbo, Otti emphasized the significance of the upcoming election, calling on voters to safeguard their votes and ensure that the will of the people prevails. “This election will make a difference in Edo State,” he said. “It is an election for the people. On election day, when you vote, remain at your polling booth and do not leave. That is how we did it in Abia State. For 48 to 72 hours, nobody sleeps.”
Otti acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that while the party might not have military power, it has the strength of the voters behind it. “Though the party may not have the guns and ammunition to win the election, we have the voters to deliver our chosen candidate for the people of the state,” he added.
Olumide Akpata, welcoming Otti to Edo, praised the Abia State governor for his leadership and efforts in mobilizing support across states. Akpata expressed confidence that the Labour Party’s momentum would resonate with the people of Edo, drawing on Otti’s success in Abia as inspiration.
The Edo governorship election is expected to be a significant contest, with the Labour Party hoping to secure another key victory in the country.
