ALGON, WHO Join Forces to Transform Rural Healthcare

Lafia – The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has announced a strategic partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) to bolster healthcare services, particularly in rural areas. This collaboration aims to address the persistent health challenges faced by millions of Nigerians living in underserved communities.

ALGON President, Aminu Mua’zu-Maifata, unveiled the partnership during a press briefing in Lafia on Thursday. He emphasized that the initiative is a crucial step towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.

To achieve this ambitious goal, ALGON has brought together a coalition of stakeholders including Civil Society Organizations, the Health Sector Reform Coalition, the Guild of Medical Doctors, and the private sector. Together, they will develop a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen primary healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

“This partnership aligns perfectly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and the Health Sector Investment Programme,” Mua’zu-Maifata said. “By working collaboratively, we can harness innovation and build the capacity of local governments to deliver quality healthcare services to all Nigerians.”

ALGON is committed to revitalizing its Primary Health Care program, ensuring standardized and sustainable service delivery across all 774 local government areas. The association will implement a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

The partnership between ALGON and WHO marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to improve the health and well-being of its citizens, especially those living in rural communities.
