Anambra, Delta Dominate Track Events at 2024 National Youth Games

The Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, was electrified on Tuesday as young athletes from Anambra and the host state, Delta, showcased remarkable talent in the 200m and 4×100m relay finals at the 2024 National Youth Games.

Anambra took the spotlight in the girls’ 200m, with Chigozie Nwankwo, the 100m champion, adding another gold medal to her tally by running a personal best of 24.71 seconds. Nwankwo’s victory led an impressive 1-2 finish for Anambra, as her teammate, Adaeze Ezeh, claimed silver with a time of 25.02 seconds, while Delta’s Ngozi Okereke secured bronze in 25.25 seconds.

Nwankwo’s winning streak didn’t end there. Alongside Ezeh and two other teammates, she powered Anambra to gold in the girls’ 4×100m relay. The team successfully defended their title, finishing first with a time of 48.21 seconds. Edo State finished second in 48.82 seconds, and Ogun State took bronze with 48.90 seconds.

Delta, however, took control of the boys’ 200m and 4x100m relay finals. Bright Gift of Delta emerged victorious in the boys’ 200m, clocking 22.35 seconds, leaving Ogun State’s Muyideen Adeola with silver (22.83 seconds) and Perfect Faye with bronze (23.07 seconds).

In the boys’ 4×100m relay, Team Delta delivered a strong performance, crossing the finish line first in 43.30 seconds, securing the gold. Bayelsa followed closely for silver with 43.71 seconds, while Ondo State clinched bronze in 43.92 seconds.

The intense competition between Anambra and Delta highlighted the athletic prowess of young Nigerian athletes, further igniting excitement for future events.
