Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has pledged to continue his boxing career despite his surprising defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, London, on Saturday. In a highly anticipated bout, Joshua was knocked down several times by Dubois before being floored by a devastating right hand in the fifth round, marking his fourth career loss. Dubois retained his IBF title with the victory.
At the post-fight press conference, Joshua addressed his future, reassuring fans that he plans to keep fighting. “Of course, I want to continue fighting,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to the sport. “We took a shot at success, and we came up short. What does that mean now? We going to run away? Or are we going to live to fight another day?”
Joshua praised his opponent’s performance, acknowledging the skill and preparation that led to Dubois’ victory. “We have to give credit to our opponent as well, Daniel. Well done to him and his team,” Joshua said. “There were a few mistakes in there, but that’s the name of the game. Fine margins can cost you at the top level.”
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, hinted at the possibility of a rematch, stating that a clause could be activated. However, he revealed that Joshua is also scheduled for another fight under Riyadh Season, potentially setting up a future bout against a major opponent like Tyson Fury or another top heavyweight.
Hearn expressed confidence that Joshua would seek significant fights to close out his career, ruling out the likelihood of tune-up bouts. “I don’t see it being a fight that ends his career, but he’s in the final chapters… I just know he’s going to want a big fight,” Hearn stated.
The loss to Dubois marks a critical moment in Joshua’s career, but the British-Nigerian boxer remains determined to rise again and pursue further success in the heavyweight division.
