APC in Rivers State Declares Interest in Upcoming Local Government Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has officially announced its intention to participate in the upcoming local government election in the state. Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the APC caretaker committee in the state, disclosed this information on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, during a meeting with concerned party members from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Okocha emphasized that the party leadership in the state has communicated to Governor Siminalayi Fubara about the imperative need to conduct the local government election upon the expiration of the current chairmen and councillors’ tenure. He categorically stated that there would be no provision for a caretaker committee for the local government councils.

Encouraging all dissatisfied members to return and actively participate in rebuilding the party’s structure, Okocha reiterated the openness of the APC to welcome all members willing to contribute to the party’s growth.

“We received former state Assembly candidates of SDP and their supporters. No division, my doors are always open,” Okocha asserted.

The publicity secretary of the APC caretaker committee, Hon. Chibuike Ikenga, echoed Okocha’s sentiment, emphasizing that the doors of the party are wide open to members interested in joining.

“This is a new APC. Our doors are open, and our hands are open to welcome those willing to join the APC,” Ikenga affirmed.

During the meeting, Professor Lawrence Chuku, the leader of the delegation, expressed support for the leadership of the current caretaker committee of the APC in the state. Chuku also emphasized their commitment to the APC under the national leadership of the party and President Bola Tinubu. He called on all dissatisfied members to unite and collaborate in reconstructing the party structure for success in upcoming elections in the state.
