The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has issued a call to its members and supporters, urging them to maintain peace and refrain from actions that could jeopardize harmony as the Supreme Court prepares to hear the appeal on the last governorship election in the state on January 16.
This plea comes in the wake of a peace accord signed by the leadership of both political parties, witnessed by state security agencies, in Lafia on Monday. In an official statement released by the APC’s spokesperson in the state, Mr. Otaru Douglas, the party urged its members and supporters to exhibit civility, uphold decorum, show mutual respect, and avoid making statements that could incite tension.
The Supreme Court has scheduled Tuesday, January 16, to hear the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Mr. David Ombugadu, challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision affirming the election victory of Abdullahi A. Sule in the last poll in the state.
The statement emphasized the need for responsible communication and cautioned against unauthorized statements on social or mainstream media platforms. It stressed that any statements related to court proceedings should be verified and edited by the party’s media center and the government house before publication.
The APC in Nasarawa State urged its supporters to remain calm and refrain from any actions that could undermine the peace and stability of the state, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful environment for the benefit of all residents, regardless of political affiliations. The party also called on the opposition PDP and its supporters to uphold the terms of the peace treaty for the sake of maintaining civility and order.
