Tempe, Arizona — Chukwudi Paul Obite, a third-year PhD student in Statistics at Arizona State University (ASU), is not just immersed in academic rigor but is also making a mark as an entrepreneur. Balancing his studies with his role as the founder of OCP Analytics, Chukwudi is on a mission to translate complex statistical theories into practical solutions that empower businesses and researchers alike.
Chukwudi’s passion for statistics led him to ASU, where he has embraced both the theoretical and practical aspects of his field. Reflecting on his experience, he notes the differences between teaching statistics in Nigeria and the USA. “In Nigeria, the focus is heavily on theoretical foundations, whereas in the USA, there’s a balanced emphasis on theory, practical applications, and the use of statistical software.”
This dual focus is something Chukwudi has carried into his entrepreneurial venture. Through OCP Analytics, he provides data analysis services and offers training in various statistical software packages like Python, R, and SPSS. His company has already made a significant impact, including a recent contract with Family Worship in Abuja, where he led a three-day SPSS training for staff.
Chukwudi’s journey is not without its challenges. Balancing his role as a Graduate Teaching Associate, a business owner, and a PhD student requires meticulous time management. However, his background as a lecturer in Nigeria has equipped him with the tools to navigate these demands successfully.
In academia, Chukwudi has achieved remarkable success. He currently holds a perfect CGPA of 4.0/4.0 and has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award and the Dennis Young Graduate and Early Scholar Statistics Award. His research is focused on developing a Bayesian spatiotemporal model for infectious diseases, a project that promises to contribute valuable insights to public health.
Chukwudi’s work through OCP Analytics and his research at ASU are united by a common goal: to make statistics accessible and actionable. With 22 published papers and over 158 citations, he is already making a significant impact in both the academic and business worlds. As he continues to advance in his career, Chukwudi Paul Obite is poised to become a leading figure in the field of statistics, both in Nigeria and internationally.
