In a significant development, a Federal High Court in Kano has upheld its jurisdiction to proceed with the human rights violation case brought by the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and senior councillor, Aminu Dan’agundi. The case challenges the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, with the court issuing an ex-parte order barring Governor Abba Yusuf from effecting Sanusi’s reinstatement pending the resolution of the lawsuit.
The court’s ruling also halted the implementation of a bill that dissolved four emirates—Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano—which had been previously passed by the Kano State House of Assembly.
