In a recent development, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has charged the newly appointed Mandate Secretary of the Women Affairs Secretariat, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, with the task of increasing women’s involvement in the administration’s programs.
During the swearing-in ceremony of the Mandate Secretary in Abuja on October 24, 2023, officiated by Justice C. Aghashieze, the representative of the FCT Chief Judge, Wike urged Benjamins-Laniyi to leverage her wealth of experience and talents to enhance governance in the FCT.
The FCT Minister emphasized that Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi’s appointment was based on her expertise and capabilities and encouraged her to bring innovation to the governance landscape in the FCT.
Wike acknowledged that the role, being the first of its kind in the FCT, would require substantial effort. Therefore, he advised Benjamins-Laniyi to collaborate effectively with her colleagues to fulfill the mandate of her Secretariat.
He stated, “With your impressive resume, it’s clear that you possess immense talent and experience. This is precisely what we want you to bring to the table to help the FCT create an environment where women can actively participate in the governance structure.”
Wike expressed the hope that women would seize this opportunity to contribute to the Renewed Hope agenda.
He lauded the Women Affairs Secretariat as a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and commended President Tinubu and the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, for promoting inclusivity and ensuring women’s inclusion in governance.
Notably, President Bola Tinubu recently authorized the establishment of the Mandate Secretariat on Women Affairs in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). This Secretariat is designed to function similarly to Women Affairs Ministries in the various states across the country.
With her appointment, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi becomes the inaugural Secretary of the FCTA Women Affairs Secretariat. Born on October 17, 1965, she is a graduate of the University of Ibadan and hails from Ogun State.
The swearing-in event was attended by the Minister of State of the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, all Mandate Secretaries of the FCTA, as well as other senior officials, family members, and friends of the new Secretary.
