Former PDP Spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, Commends Tinubu’s Anti-Corruption Drive

Olisa Metuh, the former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lauded the anti-corruption efforts under President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the focus is on corrupt government officials rather than political opposition figures.

In a press statement released yesterday, Metuh commended the Tinubu administration’s “genuine, determined, and uncompromising fight against corruption and financial crimes.” He highlighted the contrast with past administrations, stating that previous anti-corruption drives were merely political tools used to target opposition figures.

“In the past, the fight against corruption was targeted at diminishing opposition shining talents,” remarked Metuh.

However, he pointed out that under Tinubu’s leadership, serving ministers and senior officials are being removed from office and face prosecution for corruption, irrespective of their political affiliations.

“Today, we see serving ministers and people who are holding top offices being removed from office and investigated for prosecution over corruption and financial crimes,” he stated. Metuh praised the shift in approach, noting that the anti-corruption effort now focuses on individuals with questions to answer rather than serving as a tool for persecution.

The former opposition spokesperson called for non-partisan support for the administration’s anti-graft campaign. He commended President Tinubu for demonstrating promise in good governance during his seven months in office.

Metuh expressed renewed confidence among Nigerians in the Nigerian project under President Tinubu, particularly in observing democratic practices. He acknowledged the administration’s commitment to liberty, freedom, transparency, and accountability.

Metuh also commended the proactive leadership of Tinubu in reducing governance costs by slashing official entourages for state and international events by 60%. He urged Nigerians to set aside sectional, political, and religious sentiments to support President Tinubu, stating that the administration’s success is the nation’s success.

Calling on Nigerians to contribute constructive criticisms and inputs as responsible citizens in a democracy, Metuh concluded that the Tinubu government reflects a work in progress.
