The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched an immediate investigation into a viral video showing a violent altercation between its personnel and a motorist along Abudu, Edo State.
The video, which surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, captures a heated confrontation in which a driver is seen whipping uniformed FRSC officers during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop.
A background voice in the footage alleges that the clash began after the motorist refused to give the officers money, sparking outrage online and prompting calls for accountability from both sides.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the incident as “deeply concerning” and directed an immediate inquiry to determine the facts behind the altercation.
“The attention of the Federal Road Safety Corps has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media showing an altercation between some FRSC officers and a driver along Abudu, Edo State, Nigeria, on Saturday, October 25, 2025,” the statement read.
“The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep concern over the incident and has ordered an immediate investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.”
Mohammed emphasized that the FRSC does not tolerate misconduct among its personnel and vowed that any officer found guilty of unprofessional behavior would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with public service rules.
“The Corps does not condone any form of unprofessional conduct or behaviour that undermines the integrity and discipline for which the FRSC is known,” Ogungbemide stated.
The FRSC also cautioned motorists against assaulting officers on duty, warning that attacks on uniformed personnel constitute a criminal offence.
“While the FRSC remains steadfast in its mission to promote road safety, maintain order, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in service delivery, the Corps Marshal will also not tolerate any form of assault or violence against its personnel from members of the public in the course of duty,” the statement added.
The Corps urged the motoring public to remain calm and continue to cooperate with road safety officials, assuring Nigerians of the agency’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and safer highways nationwide.
