Abuja, August 30, 2024 — In a shocking incident early Friday morning, a group of armed kidnappers abducted four members of a family in the Tundun Fulani extension area of the Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The abduction occurred around 1:30 am, causing panic among residents of the area.
According to a local resident who requested anonymity, the kidnappers forcefully entered the family’s home and took the victims at gunpoint. Another person, who narrowly escaped being abducted, was shot by the assailants during the raid.
“There was a kidnap incident in Tundun Fulani extension in Bwari around 1:30 am. The kidnappers were many and fully armed. They broke into a house and kidnapped four members of the same family. They also shot one person who escaped being kidnapped,” the resident reported.
When reached for comment, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the police were actively addressing the situation. “We responded swiftly. We are on top of the situation,” Adeh stated, though no further details were provided at the time.
This abduction is the latest in a series of kidnappings that have plagued the Bwari area of Abuja in recent months. On May 8, thirteen people were kidnapped in the remote community of Piko, also in Bwari, by suspected gunmen. In July, a resident of El-Rufai Estate in Bwari, identified as Nathaniel, was shot by kidnappers after an attempt to abduct him was thwarted by the swift response of the FCT police command and collaborating troops.
The frequency of such incidents has raised concerns among residents and calls for heightened security measures in the area. The FCT Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities as efforts to combat the rising wave of kidnappings continue.
