Dutse, Jigawa — As the October 5 Local Government election approaches, the Jigawa State Police Command has pledged to eliminate notorious thugs to ensure a violence-free electoral process.
Commissioner of Police A.T. Abdullahi announced the initiative during a press briefing on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of curbing the activities of political thugs in the lead-up to the elections. “We have commenced moves to identify the black spots of political thugs. We shall go after them before the election. Some of the notorious ones will be arrested and held until after the election,” he stated.
Abdullahi highlighted that the police have begun consultative meetings with the State Independent Electoral Commission, state government officials, and other stakeholders to facilitate a peaceful electoral exercise. He also mentioned plans to convene a meeting with all candidates and party leaders, where they will be invited to sign a peace accord. “We shall invite all the candidates and leaders of the various political parties participating in the election to sign a peace accord,” he added.
The commissioner reassured citizens that the police command is taking all necessary security measures to prevent any disruptions during the election. He reiterated the commitment to maintaining Jigawa’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. “We are not sleeping. We’re working round the clock to ensure that the state maintains its position as one of the most peaceful states in the country,” CP Abdullahi concluded.
With these proactive measures in place, the Jigawa State Police Command aims to foster a secure environment for voters and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
