The Labour Party (LP) has announced the nomination and expression of interest fees for individuals aspiring to contest the governorship position in the upcoming September election in Edo State. The decision was reached during a meeting led by Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC), in Abuja on Tuesday.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the NWC disclosed that aspirants are required to pay a total of N30 million, with N5 million designated for the Expression of Interest form and N25 million for the Nomination form. The sale and submission of these forms are scheduled to occur from January 25 to February 11, providing a designated period for potential candidates to declare their interest and submit the necessary documents.
The statement clarified, “The NWC approved that the fees for Expression of Interest Form shall be N5,000,000.00, while the Nomination Form shall be N25,000,000.00.” It further noted that female aspirants are exempted from payment for the Expression of Interest form only.
Moreover, the NWC endorsed an Indirect Primary election process, involving Ward and Local Government congresses to select the party’s candidate. The timeline includes aspirant screening on February 14, the primary election on February 22, and the resolution of disputes or appeals arising from the primaries on February 23.
The NWC expressed gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for fulfilling its verification duties and commended the party’s leadership for adhering to INEC’s rules and regulations. A vote of confidence was also passed in the National Chairman, Julius Abure, for his effective leadership and direction of the party.
