I am deeply concerned about the recent incident at the Edo Specialist Hospital involving officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the hospital’s medical staff. It is disheartening to learn about the clash that ensued, resulting in injuries to several individuals, including private security guards and female personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
I believe that every citizen, regardless of their occupation, deserves prompt and compassionate medical attention in times of distress. The clash reportedly began when DSS officials sought medical assistance for a colleague who had collapsed during a meeting. It is regrettable that the situation escalated to such an extent, leading to injuries and chaos.
In times like these, it is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and cooperation to prevent further escalation of tensions. I call on the relevant authorities, including the Edo State Government and the leadership of the DSS, to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
It is essential for our healthcare facilities to be places of refuge and support, providing care to those in need without discrimination or hindrance. I urge all stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and security agencies, to work together in fostering an environment where the well-being of citizens remains paramount.
As we navigate these challenging times, I remain committed to promoting peace, unity, and effective communication as essential pillars for the progress and prosperity of Edo State.
