Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 governorship election in the state, expressing confidence that his late predecessor, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, would have endorsed him as a worthy successor.

Assuming office in 2023 following the demise of Governor Akeredolu after a prolonged illness, Aiyedatiwa made his declaration at a ceremony held at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in Akure, the state capital. He reiterated Governor Akeredolu’s desire for him to continue the administration’s legacy, stating, “It was his wish that I succeed him, not in death though, as the next Governor of the State.”

The event, attended by enthusiastic supporters and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from across the state, showcased Aiyedatiwa’s achievements since taking office. He emphasized his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people, citing initiatives such as reviving abandoned projects, clearing outstanding salary arrears, settling pensioners’ gratuities, and ensuring timely payment of salaries.

Aiyedatiwa highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster employment, particularly in critical sectors like health, which have restored confidence in the administration. He underscored his extensive political experience, having served as a former Representative of Ondo State on the Board of NDDC, Deputy Governor, and Acting Governor on three occasions under Governor Akeredolu.

Responding to the desire for continuity expressed by the people and party faithful, Aiyedatiwa affirmed his readiness to sustain the state’s progress and development beyond 2025. He urged against a reversal of the gains achieved, emphasizing the importance of respecting the people’s aspirations for good governance.

In conclusion, Governor Aiyedatiwa pledged to lead Ondo State into a future marked by sustainable growth and prosperity, echoing the sentiments of the populace for continued progress and stability.
