Blessing Agbebaku, the representative of Owan West State Constituency, has emerged as the newly elected Speaker of the 8th Edo State House of Assembly.
He emerged from a series of dramatic political chess moves in the last 24 hours.
Mariam Edeko representing Esan North East Constituency has also been picked as the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly.
Both members were nominated, seconded, and unanimously chosen on the floor earlier today.
With the inauguration of the Assembly, the battle has shifted to the 2024 governorship election in the state, which has been predicted to be a fierce battle.
Presently, Edo Central is trailing Edo South and Edo North in the distribution of political power.
Governor Godwin Obaseki is from the South, while Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and Speaker Blessing Agbebaku are from the northern part of Edo State.
Today’s event is a far departure from the inauguration that snowballed into recurring rancor which threatened the peace of Edo State and subsequently assumed national dimension.
