Senator Marafa Commends President’s Non-Interference in Supreme Court Decisions

Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central in 2011 and 2019, lauds President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s non-interference in the recent Supreme Court judgments on governorship disputes, asserting that it has safeguarded the nation’s democracy and renewed faith in the judiciary.

The Supreme Court’s affirmation of the elections of eight governors, including Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi State), Alex Otti (Abia), and Bassey Otu (Cross), received commendation from Senator Marafa. As the campaign coordinator for President Bola Tinubu in Zamfara during the 2023 general elections, Marafa expresses gratitude that both the president and the apex court justices lived up to Nigerians’ expectations, allowing the will of the voters to prevail.

In a statement, Senator Marafa hails this development as a crucial moment for the country’s democracy, preventing a repeat of historical scenarios, particularly the collapse of the Second Republic in 1983. He emphasizes the importance of non-interference, drawing parallels with past incidents and underscoring President Tinubu’s role in upholding democratic values.

Commending the Supreme Court justices, Marafa asserts that they have fulfilled the hopes of the Nigerian masses, contributing to the nation’s pride and securing their places in history. Reflecting on a similar incident during the 2019 general election, where the judiciary played a pivotal role in his favor, Marafa expresses confidence in the judiciary’s ability to rectify political wrongs.

Recalling his protest against the imposition of candidates during the APC primaries in Zamfara State, Marafa highlights the judiciary’s commitment to justice, emphasizing that it should be allowed to act impartially for the sake of sustaining democracy.

Senator Marafa urges the eight governors to govern with magnanimity, justice, and fairness in their respective states. He congratulates Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and calls for collaboration with President Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, and relevant security agencies to restore peace and security in Zamfara State.

“I, hereby, call on the governor of our dear state, Zamfara State, to collaborate with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, and relevant security agencies to restore the much-needed peace and security in Zamfara State. Peace is what our people are yearning for and nothing more,” he said.
