Abuja, Nigeria – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of Isa Bawa, the District Head of Gatawa in Sokoto State, who died while in the custody of kidnappers. The bandits had abducted the traditional ruler along with his son on July 29, and reports indicate that Bawa passed away in captivity.
In a statement released on Thursday by his media aide, Musa Krishi, Speaker Abbas condemned the kidnapping and the inhumane treatment of the late District Head. He described the abduction as barbaric and lamented the increasing spate of kidnappings for ransom across the country.
“In the first place, the bandits’ kidnapping of the traditional ruler was barbaric; their treatment of the late Sarkin Gobir was inhuman,” Abbas stated.
The Speaker further decried the continuous incidents of kidnapping for ransom, calling the situation “unacceptable.” He emphasized the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the security challenges plaguing the nation.
Abbas extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Sarkin Gobir, the residents of Gatawa District in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, and the people and government of Sokoto State. He prayed for divine mercy on the soul of the late Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, hoping that Jannatul Firdaus would be his final resting place.
The tragic death of the District Head has sparked outrage and concern, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become alarmingly frequent.
