The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially renamed the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in recognition of his “visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to national unity.”
The announcement was made on Monday during a brief ceremony held at the iconic venue, which has long served as a hub for high-level national and international engagements.
According to Wike, the renaming is a symbolic gesture aimed at immortalizing President Tinubu’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and economic reform agenda.
“This decision reflects not only our deep respect for His Excellency’s leadership but also our desire to preserve his legacy within the heart of the nation’s capital,” Wike stated.
The newly named Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre will continue to serve as a strategic venue for global summits, policy dialogues, and diplomatic events.
The move has drawn mixed reactions from the public and political observers. Supporters of the president hailed it as a well-deserved honor, while critics questioned the timing and broader significance, calling for more focus on pressing infrastructural needs in the FCT.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) confirmed that all official documentation and signage reflecting the new name would be completed within the month.
President Tinubu, who was not present at the event, has not yet issued a formal response to the honor.
