Abuja, June 9, 2025 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has advised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to disregard detractors and remain steadfast in his commitment to transforming the nation’s capital.
Speaking on Monday during a meeting with FCT stakeholders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu commended Wike’s ongoing infrastructure push and emphasized the importance of continuity in developmental efforts, regardless of political distractions.
“You were not appointed to answer critics. Your duty is to deliver results,” Tinubu told Wike. “Ignore those who seek to distract you. Let your work in the FCT speak louder than their words.”
The President praised recent infrastructure projects in Abuja — including the accelerated rehabilitation of major roads, the completion of long-abandoned public housing units, and the revitalization of public spaces — attributing the progress to Wike’s “no-nonsense” leadership style.
Wike, in response, reaffirmed his dedication to executing Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the FCT. He stated that criticism, while expected, would not derail his plans.
“Mr. President, your support has been the backbone of what we’ve achieved so far. We will not be distracted. We will stay focused,” Wike said.
Observers note that Wike has faced increasing scrutiny from political rivals and activists, particularly over high-profile projects and recent renaming decisions. However, with Tinubu’s backing, the FCT minister appears poised to forge ahead with his urban renewal plans.
The meeting concluded with assurances from both leaders that Abuja will continue to receive top-priority attention in the federal administration’s agenda.
