President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government achieved its 2025 revenue target in August 2025, months ahead of schedule, attributing the feat to ongoing economic reforms and a strong performance in the non-oil sector.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a meeting with founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and The Buhari Organisation, led by former Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the President said the reforms have stabilised the economy and created a predictable foreign exchange environment.
“The economy is now stabilised. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for forex anymore. The economy is now predictable. You do not need to know the CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, to obtain foreign exchange or import goods,” Tinubu stated.
He said government focus has now shifted towards improving exports and expanding job opportunities. “What we need now is building the ship and the vessels for the export of our goods and creating more jobs for our people,” he added.
As part of efforts to boost food security, the President disclosed that agricultural mechanisation centres will be established across the country. The centres, he explained, will expand cultivation, improve harvests, and train Nigerians in modern farming techniques.
“That programme is our path to food sovereignty,” Tinubu affirmed.
The President also assured the delegation that the Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on critical infrastructure, improved health facilities, food sufficiency, and enhanced security. He pledged to sustain the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari, including plans to immortalise him with a “Buhari House.”
Reflecting on his long association with the CPC, Tinubu described the merger and political journey as “a sweet memory,” and thanked the group for its continued loyalty.
“When I see people like you, I am determined to work harder,” he said, promising that more members of the old CPC would be given opportunities to contribute to the administration.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, commended Tinubu for his statesmanship and inclusiveness. Al-Makura, who led the delegation, assured the President of the group’s loyalty and expressed gratitude for his role in honouring former President Buhari during his burial.
“You not only buried President Buhari but also honoured him and ensured a befitting state burial with full military honours. Above all, your presence throughout the ceremony was comforting as it was reassuring,” Al-Makura said.
He pledged the group’s commitment to the success of the APC government and Tinubu’s eventual re-election bid in 2027.
