The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit and recovered 10 rustled cows in Bachaka community, Bunza Local Government Area.
The Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to Abubakar, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Salihu Umar from Dogon Dutse in Niger Republic, was apprehended on August 31 at about 5:30 p.m. at Bachaka cattle market while in possession of the stolen livestock.
“Investigations revealed that the cows belonged to one Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town, Bunza LGA, who had 68 of his cattle rustled on August 20 by suspected Lakurawa bandits who fled across the border into Niger Republic,” the statement read.
The breakthrough has drawn commendation from the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, who praised the intelligence-driven policing strategy employed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bachaka and his team.
Sani directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation, with the aim of arresting other fleeing gang members and recovering more of the stolen cattle.
Reaffirming the Command’s determination to clamp down on violent crime, the Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and accurate information.
“The police will not relent in their onslaught against criminals. Our priority remains peace and stability across Kebbi State,” Sani assured.
