Maxwell Mgbudem has been elected as the national chairman of the Accord Party’s caretaker committee, succeeding the outgoing Mohammed Nalado-led National Working Committee. This decision was reached at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, where the former committee’s tenure was dissolved after completion.
The newly elected caretaker committee members include Adebukola Ajaja as national secretary, Yusuf Saulawa as national treasurer, Hassan Bello as national financial secretary, Ibe ThankGod as national organizing secretary, Omoregie Solomon as national publicity secretary, and Garba Mohammed as national auditor.
In his acceptance speech, Mgbudem characterized his emergence as a decisive effort to liberate the party and committed to working collaboratively to reposition the party and contribute to Nigeria’s development.
He emphasized the crucial role of political parties in a democracy, stating, “A political party is the foundation for the nation’s democracy. Once you get it right, the nation will be better for it.”
Mgbudem urged party leaders at the state and ward levels to collaborate in reconciling aggrieved members, stressing the party’s commitment to taking future elections, especially the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, seriously.
Addressing the achievements during his tenure, outgoing national chairman Nalado acknowledged the party’s victories and its significant role in the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) at the national level. Nalado pledged his continued support for the party’s development, promising to assist the new leadership whenever called upon.
The newly elected members of the national committee concluded the proceedings by taking their oath of office.
