The Anambra State Government has vehemently refuted unfounded allegations of a conflict between Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and his former Finance Commissioner, Mr. Ifeatu Onejeme, as the reason for the commissioner’s recent resignation.
Mr. Onejeme tendered his resignation with immediate effect on Thursday, though the precise circumstances behind his decision were not disclosed publicly. Governor Charles Soludo is reported to have accepted the resignation.
Christian Aburime, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, issued a statement in Awka on Friday, debunking the rumors of a supposed fallout. He attributed these baseless claims to a dubious and sponsored online media outlet, Stargist, which insinuated that the governor compelled the former finance commissioner to step down due to disagreements regarding state finances.
Aburime clarified, “We categorically state that these allegations are nothing but a tissue of lies fabricated by sponsored propagandists with the intent of undermining the integrity and stability of the Soludo administration.” He emphasized that the claims lacked evidence and were concocted to mislead the public.
The Chief Press Secretary clarified that Mr. Ifeatu Onejeme resigned from his position due to personal and family-related matters, a decision that Governor Soludo respected and understood. In accepting the resignation, the Governor expressed appreciation for Onejeme’s commitment, professionalism, and service to Anambra State, highlighting his role in facilitating seamless fiscal continuity between the previous administration and the current one.
Mr. Onejeme previously served as Commissioner during the administration of former Governor Obiano and was appointed Commissioner for Finance by Governor Soludo at the beginning of his tenure to aid the new government’s transition.
