APC Chairman Denies Allegations of Witch-Hunt Against Former Governor in Cross River State

Alphonsus Eba Ogar, Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has refuted rumors suggesting that the state Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, is engaging in a witch-hunt against his predecessor, Prof Ben Ayade.

Ogar asserted that as the APC chairman in the state, he is committed to ensuring a harmonious relationship between Ayade, the immediate past governor, and his successor, Otu.

Making his stance clear in Calabar during a reception held to honor the state’s Education Commissioner, Senator Dr. Stephen Adi Odey, who recently obtained his second doctorate degree in law, Ogar emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the party.

The recent declaration by the leadership of the Cross River State House of Assembly regarding the recovery of construction equipment from unspecified individuals within the state had fueled speculation of targeting the former governor. However, Ogar swiftly addressed these rumors, stating, “There is no witch-hunt by anybody.”

He further elaborated, “I have observed certain inappropriate language being used. Discovering government equipment at a government construction site and terming it as ‘recovery’ is misleading. Allegations of theft are entirely unfounded, and those propagating such notions should retract them.”

Ogar emphasized the strong bond between Ayade and Otu, emphasizing Ayade’s pivotal role in Otu’s ascension to power. He vowed to prevent any form of interference between them, affirming the party’s stance against such disruptions.

Expressing admiration for Sen. Stephen Odey’s academic achievements, Ogar hailed him as an inspiration and urged the younger generation to emulate his dedication and success. He described Odey as a benchmark for measuring success, citing his attainment of seven degrees and recent acquisition of a second doctorate degree.
