PDP Crisis Deepens as Ex-Lawmaker Eta Mbora Dumps Party for ADC

A fresh wave of political realignment has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the resignation of former House of Representatives member, Eta Mbora.

Mbora, who represented Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing unresolved internal disputes within the PDP.

Announcing his decision in Calabar, the former lawmaker expressed concern over the prolonged crisis rocking the party, noting that it has continued to erode its strength and cohesion.

He acknowledged that leaving the PDP was a difficult step but described it as unavoidable given the current state of affairs within the party.

Despite his exit, Mbora appreciated the PDP for providing him opportunities to serve at various levels of government, including local, state, and national positions.

He also called on his supporters and political associates to align with him in his new political journey by joining the ADC and taking part in the party’s ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise.

His defection comes amid increasing political shifts in Cross River State, where several prominent figures have recently left the PDP for the ADC.

Notably, former governor Liyel Imoke and ex-senator Gershom Bassey have also made similar moves, signaling a broader restructuring ahead of the next election cycle.

Plans are already underway to host a reception rally to welcome Mbora and other defectors into the ADC, as the party continues to strengthen its base in the state.
