Gen Charles Airhavbere, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emphasized the need to fortify the party for a robust performance in the 2024 election. Declaring his intention to run for the governorship at the APC secretariat over the weekend, Airhavbere asserted that the party, after wresting power from the Peoples Democratic Party, should strategize with a 16-year plan to govern the state.
Airhavbere highlighted the importance of strengthening the party at various levels, including the establishment of a befitting secretariat. To kickstart this initiative, he personally donated N10 million, emphasizing the necessity of reinforcing the party’s presence at the local government and ward levels to align with the demands of contemporary politics.
Promising a focus on peace, infrastructure development in education, agriculture, and health sectors, Airhavbere underscored his commitment to prioritizing economic prosperity in the state.
“We need to strengthen Edo APC to win the election in the next 16 years. I believe as we move towards next year’s election, we expect President Bola Tinubu to come to the state, and I am putting down N10 million to start the process of building a new secretariat. We must also do the same at the local and ward levels to take APC to a higher level,” he stated.
Drawing attention to his experience gained from retiring from the Nigeria Army and his extensive global contacts, Airhavbere asserted his capability to govern the state effectively. He emphasized the party’s responsibility to present the best candidate for the election, declaring himself as the right candidate for the job.
“Edo APC should be the heartbeat of the APC at the national level. We don’t have a governorship, so there’s no need to zone. We have to present the best candidate, and I present myself as the right man for the job. I believe that with my experience and connection due to travels, I will be the best man for the job. I believe it is my turn to become the governor having supported others in the past. Let me be used as the meat to attract the antelope,” he concluded.
