Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has affirmed that his administration is focused on fulfilling its mandate by addressing the needs of the people and safeguarding the state’s interests, rather than engaging in confrontations. The governor made this declaration on Friday during the commencement of the construction of 20,000 housing units for low-income earners in the state. The event took place along International Airport Road at Mbudu-Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
Governor Fubara, while emphasizing the commitment to the welfare of the people, assured that his administration would uphold transparency and encourage active public participation in governance. Speaking to the audience, he stated, “Our government has nothing to do with fighting anybody. Our governance is to take care of and defend our people. This is the beginning of our service to the people of Rivers State, focusing on the poor and low-income earners.”
Highlighting the significance of the housing initiative, the governor remarked that it marked the commencement of a new era for Rivers State. He pledged that the allocation of the housing units would be conducted transparently, ensuring that the intended beneficiaries, particularly low-income earners, would have access to the homes.
Governor Fubara attributed the success of the open door policy of his administration to the increased opportunities for economic empowerment, access to housing, and other benefits for the people. He declared Rivers State as a safe and secure haven for investment, emphasizing the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investors.
The acting administrator of the New City Development Authority, Mr. Aaron Obele, provided details about the housing project, indicating that the 20,000 units would be situated on 1,000 hectares of land. The first phase, covering 100 hectares, aims to provide affordable housing within a thriving and inclusive community.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TAF Africa Global, Mustapha Njie, emphasized that the housing initiative is the largest public-private partnership in Africa. He assured that the Rivers State government would not incur any financial costs for the project, and his company would expedite the work, creating economic opportunities for the people.
