APC Halts Impeachment Move Against Ondo Deputy Governor, Pursues Reconciliation

In a last-minute effort to resolve the political crisis in Ondo state, the national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for a temporary halt to impeachment proceedings against the state deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The state Assembly had initiated impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor in the past week, following the return of the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to the country.

As part of its reconciliation efforts, the APC has formed a nine-member committee, with former Katsina state governor Aminu Bello Masari as its chairman, to address the issue.

During the committee’s inauguration, APC national chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje emphasized the importance of fostering a productive working relationship between the governor and his deputy.

Ganduje expressed confidence in the committee members’ extensive public service experience, believing they are well-equipped to achieve their reconciliation goals.

He stated, “As a political party, APC is committed to ensuring peaceful coexistence and a harmonious working relationship between the Governor of Ondo State and his deputy. To address this issue, it is imperative to establish a reconciliation committee composed of individuals with relevant experience and a deep understanding of the matter at hand.”

Ganduje further announced that all ongoing actions and processes related to the impeachment should be put on hold following the appointment of the reconciliation committee.

The Masari-led panel’s primary task is to engage with all involved parties and gather information about the ongoing impeachment process against the Ondo State Deputy Governor.
