Kwara’s ASR Africa-Funded Oncology Center Aims to Elevate Nigeria’s Healthcare Standards

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has expressed confidence that the N2.5 billion Oncology Center initiative by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) will significantly reduce medical tourism in Nigeria.

The governor made this assertion during the groundbreaking ceremony of the state-of-the-art project in Ilorin on Friday. He emphasized that the project would offer services not only to Nigeria but also to the entire West African region.

Once completed, the oncology center is expected to position Nigeria as a prominent destination for high-quality and affordable cancer diagnosis and treatment in West Africa. Governor AbdulRazaq commended ASR Africa and its chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for their significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) gesture and support for various projects in Nigeria and Africa.

He pledged the state government’s unwavering support to ensure the timely completion of the project, adding that he had no doubt that it would revolutionize the medical landscape in Nigeria. AbdulRazaq praised Abdul Samad Rabiu, the founder of BUA Group, as a visionary and patriotic Nigerian.

Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director of ASR Africa, stated that the project, carried out in partnership with the Kwara State Government, would feature state-of-the-art technology for oncology diagnostics and treatment. Once operational, the center will provide world-class oncology services, facilitating early cancer detection and affordable treatment for various cancer types.

Dr. Udoh also commended the governor’s choice of the project and his personal commitment to its success. He explained that ASR Africa had allocated a total of N10 billion in grants to four states—Sokoto, Ogun, Kwara, and Edo—with the aim of achieving a balanced geographical spread and supporting the tertiary healthcare system. The Oncology Center project in Kwara is one of the beneficiaries of this initiative.
