The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus in the National Assembly has issued a plea for urgent intervention from President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders to prevent the potential destruction of the party’s fortunes under the leadership of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia in Benue State.
The caucus addressed journalists following their conclusion of the end-of-year retreat at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Speakers at the briefing included Sen. Titus Zam, leader of Benue North-West; Sen. Emmanuel Udende of Benue North-East; Hon. Dickson Tarkighir of Makurdi/Guma Federal; Hon. Philip Agbese representing Ado/Ogbadibo, Okpoku; Hon. Terseer Ugbor of Kwande/Ushongo; Hon. Austin Achado of Gwer-East/Gwer-West; Hon. Sekav Iyortyom of Buruku, and Hon. Sesoo Ikpagher of Konshisha/Vandeikya.
Sen. Zam, the leader of the caucus, alleged that Governor Alia exhibited dictatorial tendencies, and despite bringing the matter to the attention of the party’s leader and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, they were advised to be patient, which they believe has emboldened the governor.
The caucus, consisting of members elected on the APC platform from Benue State, expressed concern over the absence of democratic leadership in the state, particularly citing the governor’s arrogant and egocentric conduct over the last six months. They emphasized the need for immediate intervention to salvage the APC’s standing in Benue State.
