Tinubu Convenes Urgent Meeting Amid Ondo Political Turmoil

latest news on politics

In the midst of the deepening political crisis in Ondo State, President Bola Tinubu has once again summoned key figures, including Deputy Governor Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, and others for a critical meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, scheduled for today (Monday), comes as an effort to address the ongoing political turmoil in the state.

Reliable sources in Akure indicate that the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, and the state party chairman, Ade Adetimehin, have also received invitations from the President. While the full list of invitees remains unconfirmed, it is evident that Tinubu seeks to bring together key stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the crisis exacerbated by the continued absence of the governor since his return from a medical vacation abroad.

During the last meeting held in November, attended by prominent figures such as the state party chairman, Adetimehin, the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Odu, and several senators, a resolution was reached to maintain the status quo.

Meanwhile, as tensions escalate, Pro-democracy activist and Presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has vowed to lead the ‘Occupy Ondo State’ protest at the Akure Town Hall next Saturday. The protest aims to address state affairs, governance, and concerns related to Governor Akeredolu. In response, the state Police Commissioner, Asabi Abiodun, has warned against activities that may disrupt peace, emphasizing the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

While acknowledging the citizens’ right to peaceful protest, the Police Commissioner cautioned against actions that could lead to chaos and the breakdown of law and order in the state. As the situation unfolds, President Tinubu’s intervention remains crucial to navigating the delicate political landscape in Ondo State.
