Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala continues to showcase her scoring prowess in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), netting her fifth away goal in Bay FC’s 1-0 victory against Seattle Reign FC on Sunday. The win moves Bay FC into the eighth and final playoff position, with just four matches left in the NWSL regular season.
Oshoala, known for her clinical finishing, calmly converted a penalty in the 27th minute after being fouled en route to the goal. Midfielder Tess Boade set up the opportunity with a perfectly timed through ball, which led to the spot-kick. The goal was Oshoala’s sixth of the season, further solidifying her status as Bay FC’s top scorer.
This victory marks Oshoala’s third goal in her last four matches and her second penalty goal of the campaign. The former FC Barcelona star has been particularly prolific on the road, scoring in each of Bay FC’s last two away games.
Bay FC’s Playoff Push
The win gives Bay FC their ninth victory of the season, including five on the road, and brings them level with Portland Thorns FC on 28 points. However, Portland remains in seventh place due to a superior goal differential. With the Chicago Red Stars on 29 points suffering a home defeat to North Carolina Courage, Bay FC now sits just one point away from climbing further in the playoff race.
Bay FC is also three points clear of Racing Louisville FC, who hold ninth place with 25 points, and six points ahead of both San Diego Wave FC and Angel City FC, who are tied on 22 points.
Oshoala’s impressive form and Bay FC’s strong push for a playoff spot make them a team to watch as the season draws to a close.
