Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has fallen six places in the latest WBO rankings following his surprise loss to Daniel Dubois, while Nigeria’s Efe Ajagba now ranks 10th, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Joshua, who entered the bout as the top-ranked heavyweight and a strong favorite, suffered a shocking fifth-round knockout at Wembley Stadium in front of 95,000 fans. The defeat saw the British-Nigerian boxer drop from the No. 1 spot to seventh place in the rankings.
The 34-year-old Joshua was knocked down four times in five rounds before the referee ended the contest. Despite this setback, Joshua remains determined to continue his boxing career, sharing a defiant message with his fans.
In a video statement, Joshua said, “It’s about making the right steps forward and working hard. Keep your seatbelts on because deep down in my heart, I know we’ve got a lot more to bring. British Boxing, I appreciate you, and let’s rise up together.”
Possible Rematch on the Horizon
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has hinted at a potential rematch with Dubois. Joshua is still under contract for one more fight with Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season, leaving the door open for a high-profile comeback.
Changes in the WBO Heavyweight Division
The updated WBO rankings reflect significant changes in the heavyweight division. Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk remains the undisputed champion, while New Zealand’s Joseph Parker holds the interim title.
Tyson Fury has emerged as the top contender, with China’s rising star Zhilei Zhang now in second place. Martin Bakole’s recent performances have earned him third, while Agit Kabayel and Justis Huni complete the top five.
Nigeria’s Efe Ajagba continues his rise, moving into the 10th spot as the heavyweight division reshuffles following recent high-profile bouts.
