Babajide Sanwo-Olu Slashes Transportation Fares by 50% Amid Fuel Subsidy Removal

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, took decisive action on Monday by reducing transportation fares in the state-owned transport system by 50%. The move is aimed at cushioning the impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal, which has caused hardship for many residents.

Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that commercial transporters are also planning to lower their prices by 25% across the metropolis, providing additional relief to commuters.

Speaking to newsmen after the Security Council meeting held at the State House in Ikeja on Monday, the governor announced that all transportation vehicles under government ownership will implement the 50% fare reduction starting from Wednesday, 2nd August.

Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the public that the government is taking proactive steps to ease the burden of subsidy removal. Alongside the transportation fare cut, the state government will initiate the distribution of foodstuff to support vulnerable individuals affected by the subsidy removal.

In addition to the transportation fare reduction, Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged to increase the number of buses available for civil servants, ensuring easier and more affordable movement for them.

With these measures in place, the Lagos State Government aims to provide tangible assistance to its citizens during this challenging period of subsidy removal. The fare cuts and distribution of foodstuff demonstrate the government’s commitment to lessening the impact on the people of Lagos.
