Bella Shmurda Considers New Sound Direction, Moving Away from His Signature Voice

Afrobeats sensation Bella Shmurda is contemplating a bold shift in his musical journey by moving away from the distinctive voice that has defined his career. In a recent conversation with Just Vibes, the ‘Cash App’ hitmaker expressed his desire to explore a new sound that could resonate with a different audience.

“I know I have a unique voice, but I don’t want to be using it anymore,” Shmurda revealed. “I want to try a new sound.”

Since his breakout in 2020 with the viral hit ‘Vision 2020,’ Shmurda has remained true to his signature style, earning him a dedicated fanbase. However, like many Nigerian artists before him, he is now considering a change in his sound to broaden his appeal, especially to international listeners.

This trend of sound evolution among Nigerian musicians has sparked a mix of admiration and criticism. In 2017, Wizkid led the charge with his Caribbean-infused project ‘Sounds From The Other Side.’ Similarly, Davido experimented with a different sound in his 2018 EP ‘Son Of Mercy,’ but later returned to his Afrobeats roots after the project didn’t meet his expectations.

More recently, artists like Rema, Fireboy DML, and Ayra Starr have also adapted their sounds in an effort to captivate global audiences.

Bella Shmurda’s decision to potentially embrace a new sound marks the latest chapter in this ongoing trend within the Nigerian music industry. Fans are eager to see what this next phase will bring for the talented singer.
