Four individuals have died following a boat accident in Dundaye community, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, was confirmed by Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, Head of the Sokoto Field Operation Office for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Kafindangi reported that a rescue team comprising NEMA, Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services, the State Emergency Management Agency, and local divers recovered the bodies of the deceased on Monday. Initially, 24 people were involved in the accident, with 19 successfully rescued.
The recovery operation saw one body retrieved on Sunday and an additional three on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities to four. One person remains missing, with search efforts continuing.
Kafindangi expressed gratitude to state and local governments, as well as community members, for their support during the rescue operations.
