The Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the chairman of the newly established Osun Sports Trust Fund.

The initiative, according to the government, is part of efforts to mobilise private and public sector support to develop the state’s sports infrastructure and nurture young talents.

Confirming the appointment, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, said Davido’s influence and global network would be instrumental in attracting investments into Osun’s sports sector.

Adewusi disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is committed to upgrading the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards, adding that the facility will soon be completed and positioned to host both national and international events.

“I am pleased to inform you that the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium will soon be completed. It is designed to meet Olympic standards and become a world-class sports arena,” Adewusi said.

He further revealed that plans were in advanced stages to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.

“The Sports Trust Fund will attract contributions from philanthropists within and outside the state to ensure sustainable sports financing and development,” he explained.

Adewusi added that Davido readily accepted the appointment, expressing his willingness to contribute to the state’s sports transformation.

“Davido’s intervention would attract funds and partnerships that would positively impact Osun’s sports landscape,” he said.

The development has sparked excitement among sports enthusiasts and residents, who see the move as a blend of celebrity influence and governance aimed at revitalising youth engagement and promoting the state’s image globally.
