The Department of State Services (DSS) has raised concerns over a potential plot to disrupt the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29. The secret police has urged Nigerians to uphold orderly conduct and adhere to protocols during the inauguration activities.
In a statement signed by the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, the agency emphasized that any attempt to disrupt the swearing-in ceremony would be tantamount to undermining the collective security of Nigeria.
“The major highlight of the activities is the swearing-in of the President on May 29, 2023, in Abuja. On the same date, new Governors will also be inaugurated in most of the states,” Afunanya stated.
He further highlighted the DSS’s awareness of plans by subversive elements to disrupt the inauguration programs in certain parts of the country. The motive behind such actions is to undermine the diligent efforts of security agencies in ensuring peaceful ceremonies, while instilling panic and fear among the general public.
In light of these security concerns, the secret police has cautioned all unauthorized individuals to refrain from entering restricted areas and designated event venues. The DSS will collaborate closely with other security agencies to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition of power.
