Two student-led associations in Ondo State, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), have expressed their readiness to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in his bid for re-election in the November 2024 gubernatorial election.
The leadership of these groups, representing students across the state, converged at the cocoa conference hall of the governor’s office in Alagbaka, Akure, where they were warmly received by the Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami.
During the gathering, Ahmed Oyelade, the national president of NAOSS, outlined the associations’ plans and affirmed their stance on the upcoming election, emphasizing their endorsement of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy. Oyelade lauded the governor’s notable achievements in the education sector, citing his unwavering commitment to improving educational standards at all levels.
Highlighting specific accomplishments, Oyelade mentioned the allocation of a N1.2 billion grant for infrastructural development at the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), as well as the clearance of salary arrears for staff at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPO).
To bolster their support for Governor Aiyedatiwa, NAOSS and NANS jointly established the “Aiyedatiwa Students Movement,” a platform aimed at promoting the governor’s campaign across the state’s 18 local government areas. As a symbol of their allegiance, Governor Aiyedatiwa was officially appointed as the patron of the movement.
Similarly, Rasheed Salami, acting chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of NANS in Ondo state, commended the governor’s transformative policies in the education sector. Salami affirmed the readiness of student associations to collaborate with the governor, emphasizing their collective commitment to advancing the state’s educational landscape.
The pledges of support from these student bodies underscore the growing momentum behind Governor Aiyedatiwa’s re-election bid, as he continues to garner widespread endorsement and appreciation for his initiatives aimed at enhancing education in Ondo State.
