In a decisive outcome, the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) has officially declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the triumphant winner of the state’s local government election, which took place on Saturday.
EKSIEC Chairman, Justice Cornelius Akintayo (rtd), disclosed the election results, confirming that the APC secured victories in all 38 chairmanship positions and 177 councillor seats that were up for contention. The election, held across 177 wards, 22 Local Council Development Areas, and 16 Local Government Areas of the state, witnessed the APC’s dominance throughout.
Justice Akintayo made the announcement within the situation room of the state electoral body in Ado Ekiti, where the results were presented by Returning Officers from all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.
EKSIEC commissioners and principal officers joined the chairman for the presentation of the election results. Commending the residents for maintaining peace and order during the exercise, Justice Akintayo expressed appreciation for the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by all participating political parties.
He also extended gratitude to the commission’s staff, security agents, and the media for their commendable efforts in ensuring the success of the electoral process. Notably, the major opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), did not partake in the election, while a total of eight political parties featured on the ballot, including Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADC), African Democratic Party (ADP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
