Elder Statesman Urges EFCC Chairman to Remain Steadfast in Pursuing Corruption Cases Against Former Governors

In an open letter titled “Re: The Reviving of All Abandoned High Profile Corrupt Cases Against Politicians By The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),” Chief Edwin Clark implored Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, the chairman of the EFCC, not to relent in his efforts to reopen pending corruption cases involving former governors.

Clark highlighted several former governors whose cases had not been concluded over the past decade and urged the EFCC to revive them. He expressed concern over the prevalence of corruption in Nigeria, emphasizing that corruption would persist as long as “sacred cows” remained unchallenged.

Acknowledging Olukoyede’s initiative in reviving these cases, Clark stressed the importance of expediting investigations and trials to hold accountable those accused of embezzling significant sums of public funds. He called for swift action against former governors allegedly involved in corruption, including those currently serving in political offices.

Furthermore, Clark criticized the former President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to fulfill his anti-corruption campaign promises during his tenure, citing instances of corruption within the presidency and throughout the country. He lamented the pervasive corruption in both public and private sectors, highlighting its detrimental impact on Nigerian society.

Clark concluded his letter by urging the EFCC to investigate all former governors, including those implicated in corruption allegations, to support ongoing anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria. He emphasized the urgency of addressing corruption at all levels of governance and called for swift and decisive action to combat this pervasive issue.
