The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has issued a stern warning to motorists, emphasizing the critical importance of adhering to speed limits to curb accidents during the festive season on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun, Mr Anthony Uga, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, addressed the recent tragedies, stating that two separate crashes occurred on Monday and Tuesday, resulting in four fatalities. The common denominator in both incidents was identified as over-speeding.
“FRSC has been talking and educating motorists that they should drive according to stipulated speed limits. They should not take advantage of the fact that the road is okay and smooth to exceed speed limits,” emphasized Uga.
Expressing concern over the observed trend during the Yuletide season, Uga noted instances where mechanically deficient vehicles were in use. Despite FRSC operatives being present to guide motorists, some still disregard the safety advice.
Uga recommended the installation of speed-limiting devices in vehicles as a proactive measure to prevent road crashes during this period. As the festive season continues, the FRSC remains committed to ensuring road safety and calls for the cooperation of all motorists in adhering to safety guidelines.
