The Cross River State Police Command has successfully apprehended two members of a notorious four-man kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction of a prominent vehicle dealer’s wife in Calabar, according to Police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, Ugbo revealed that the gang had collected a ransom before releasing their victim. The suspects are in custody, having provided confessional statements to the police, and will face legal proceedings upon the completion of the investigation.
“The duo ran out of luck as the police tracked the bank account owner into which they received the ransom money. The suspects never knew that they had been trailed. We are happy that two out of four have been apprehended,” stated Ugbo.
Recovered from the suspects were locally-made pistols, ammunition, phones, and various valuable items. Ugbo issued a warning to the public against sharing bank details, emphasizing the potential risks associated with such actions, including fraud and illicit dealings.
