Gbajabiamila Set to Resign as House of Reps Member Today

Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, is expected to tender his resignation as a lawmaker on the floor of the Green Chamber today (Wednesday).

Following his recent appointment as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Gbajabiamila, who has not yet collected his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), faces the challenge of juggling both roles.

It remains unclear how Gbajabiamila would have managed his responsibilities, considering that he was inaugurated alongside his colleagues on Tuesday and participated in voting for the House leadership.

According to Channels Television, Gbajabiamila, who represents Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State, will submit his resignation letter to his successor, Tajudeen Abbas, in order to fully focus on his duties as Chief of Staff.

Furthermore, INEC will need to conduct a fresh election to fill the vacant position left by Gbajabiamila, as per information gathered by Naija News.

Meanwhile, Gbajabiamila has extended his congratulations to Tajudeen Abbas on his emergence as the new Speaker of the Green Chamber. During the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday, Gbajabiamila presented his handover note and expressed his optimism that Abbas will continue the progress made under his leadership.

As the incoming Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Gbajabiamila believes that his successor possesses the necessary legislative experience and will excel in his role during his tenure.
